What We Believe

The Seneca church of Christ believes in God as the all-loving, all-powerful creator of the universe (Genesis 1:1).  We stand by the Bible as God’s inspired revelation for mankind (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and use it as our only standard for faith and morality (2 Peter 1:3).  We also believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 20:31), who through His death, burial, and resurrection provides salvation for mankind (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10).

All people need this salvation because our sins against God’s standard separate us from Him (Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2).  Through faith and obedience to the gospel in the name of Jesus we can be forgiven and added to the church, Christ’s body (Romans 1:16; Acts 2:38, 41).  The church serves as God’s spiritual kingdom and family (Matthew 16:18-19; 1 Timothy 3:15), and its members are to build up one another in love (Ephesians 4:15-16).  Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, those in His church have the hope of eternal life in heaven through resurrection (John 5:25-29).

Our worship is simple, based on the pattern of worship in the New Testament.  Our church leadership is composed of a group of elders and deacons, also based on the pattern in the New Testament.  We emphasize love, service, and evangelism in the name of Jesus.  We would love to meet you, worship God with you, and grow with you in faith.

An Outward Sign?
If you google “why be baptized”, your search will return something like this, a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. An outward sign of an inward transformation. A symbol of one’s need for forgiveness of sins. 1 Peter 3:21 does say the water symbolizes baptism, but aside from this, we don’t read baptism associated with a symbolic gesture at all. Romans 6:4 and Colossians 2:12-13 tell us were buried in death with Him and resurrected in a new life. It is difficult to understand how this is interpreted as only a symbol or a sign. Jesus was not crucified as an outward sign of His faith! His death was real and carried the sins of the creation with it. He was not resurrected as a symbol of defeating death; He did defeat the grave! God’s word leaves no doubt about baptism as part of your salvation.
Consider: Acts 2:38 repent and be baptized; John 3:5..born of water and spirit..; Mark 16:16 whoever believes and is baptized; Acts 22:16..why do you wait rise and be baptized. Faith, repentance, confession, and baptism. If you leave one out, you have nothing.
